Prints on the Arts Trail

Over the weekend I had a little bit of studio space at Making Space during the open studios event as part of Havant’s May Day Arts Trail. I’ll be adding the gift cards, pin badges and new prints to the Quiet Corners store very soon too.

Thanks to everyone that passed through!

Winter Cabinet

I was recently commissioned by Compulsive Productions to produce six photos for a cabinet’s six glass doors. Yesterday I finished up installing the six photo prints from my Winter series and I’m really happy with how things turned out. The prints were produced by local printer ArtChroma.

April Podcast – Roads and Roads

The new April episode of the Quiet Corners podcast for 2010 ‘Roads and Roads’ is now online (finally, sorry), it is available as usual via the usual iTunes/podcast subscription or downloadable as an MP3 via the Podcast page. The track list is as follows:

‘Roads and Roads’

April 2010

‘Avenue A’ Cranes
‘She Paints The Daytime Black’ The White Birch
‘Tone Adventure #3′ Deastro
‘Wet And Rusting’ Menomena
‘Sleepdriving’ Grand Archives
‘Autumn Tree’ Maikotobranco
‘Astronaut’ Beach House
‘Honey’ Doveman
‘A Burial At Sea’ Get Well Soon
‘Two Links On A Chain (XFM Session…
…02-02-2005)’ Solid State Revival
‘We Work Better’ The Provincial Archive
‘The Rest Of The Day’ Bedhead

Late, late, late again, really sorry about that. Same old story, busy, busy, busy plus listening to loads of other peoples podcasts this month so not a lot of new listening so I dug out some songs I put by going all the way back to the first few podcasts.

The cover photo I took skating down an San Francisco street back in 1997, some very special memories from that trip. The back photo was taken whilst in a lay-by waiting for the AA, some time in 2003. Not so much fun.

20+

It’s been a really busy month so far, which sadly meant I haven’t had much time for updates. I’ve been out with my camera loads and have taken 20+ rolls of film and still need to process some of them, so I thought I’d put up a little taster of what I’ve been up to. Some of the photos are already up on Forever Circling and that’s where most of them will end up at some point, so check there too as I try to post daily.

Late again! Oh dear. Well worth the wait though, I hope you’ll agree. This month is one of my favourites.

I won’t go through each of the artists this month (all amazing) but I will mention Ben Carter from Boston who is super talented and got in contact a little while ago. I’ll be supplying some images for the artwork for his debut EP which is due soon, looking forward to hearing that.

The artwork photos are from Amy’s flat in Brighton, on a cold winter’s morning.

Hilltops

On the way back from Croydon on Saturday morning I stopped off the A3 and went up a hill I visited last summer, wanting to get a different seasonal view over the South Downs. The hill with the wires and windmill overlooks some of QE2 Country Park (which I must get around to visiting) and some farms and the hills draw the eye off to the east and west. Best moment? I saw a huge owl flying in the tree tops below. I think I’ll try and walk and cycle some of the hills this summer.

Hello Miss Forty

I got a link the other day to a really nice blog post about some of my photos. When I was younger I started to cut out and tear out pictures and photos from magazines and put them on my wall or in books and I still do that to this day so it really made my day to find out someone had cut out some of mine. Anyway, stoked!

February Podcast – Keep in Mind

The February episode of the Quiet Corners podcast for 2010 ‘Keep in Mind’ is now online, it is available via the usual iTunes/podcast subscription or downloadable as an MP3 via the Podcast page. The track list is as follows:

‘Keep in Mind’

February 2010

‘Arrived/Departed’ The Mercury Program
‘Wide Eyes’ Local Natives
‘From A Sinking Boat’ The Magnetic Fields
‘Drowning Men’ Fanfarlo
‘Piano Music’ The Tindersticks
‘This Time Around’ The Radio Dept
‘Muskratting’ Wildcatting
‘Taste the Floor (Peel Session)’ The Jesus and Mary Chain
‘Temporary People’ Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts
‘Like The Ocean, Like The Innocent Pt. 1…
…The Innocent’ The Besnard Lakes
‘Magic Arrow’ Timber Timbre
‘Hard to Find (Original)’ The American Analog Set
‘Hard to Find (Reprise)’ The American Analog Set

Sorry it is a bit a late but it has been a busy couple of weeks and I’ve not been able to listen to as much music as I would like. Hopefully getting an iPod at the end of the month so I’ll have it all with me at all times. Comforting thought.

Starting at the older end of the scale, the Jesus and Mary Chain recording is from a John Peel session from 84 and it is rather wonderful. Some hints of Shoe Gaze before it even emerged a few years later. At the newer end of the scale, finding out The Radio Dept. had a new album out made me very happy. This incredible band kept me stocked up on smiles in the early to middle of the last decade. So, so good. Be sure to get hold of ‘Lesser Matters’, absolute gold. Likewise the new Besnard Lakes (podcast regulars) album is rather special as is the new Magnetic Fields and the new one by The Tindersticks (fond memories of the mid 90s). Finally, anything released by The American Analog Set is going to be awesome, including the new b-sides and rarities album. Feeew, and I haven’t even mentioned all of the other bands included. Hunt them out too if you are feeling them, you won’t be sorry. It’s all a bit faster paced than usual this month, roll on springtime with warm air and music coming out of open windows.

The cover is from a cold but clear winter’s day in Southsea tinkering with filters. The back cover is a flooded carpark in Suffolk by an old abbey.

More and More Space

I finished the artist studio photo project the other day with a visit to jewellery designers Sarah Macrae and Sharon Justice’s shared studio. It was really interesting to see them at work and see the different processes and tools. How many pliers and cutters?
